The streets of china were especially crowed today, the hustle and bustle even worse then normal as i try to make my way to the factory for work. Between a bunch of people a spot a white man, I am unsure of why he would be here in this part of China but before I could think of why i had lost him in the crowd. His face just a blur in my mind, with his fancy hat, and nice coat on, he was probably from America, one day I hope I can move to Canada and live a happy life.
Finally making my way into the factory after the struggle of the streets, their was a huddle of men in the corner, confused i walked over. The white man, he was there, telling everyone about a wonderful opportunity for all of us in Canada. Building a railroad, this is a great chance for me to start my life in Canada and I will make lots of money and I will be able to bring my family over after too. It was perfect, the only sad part is I would leave my family, but at least it wouldn't be for long. We were leaving tomorrow, and that made today's work go by a little faster, and a little easier just knowing i wouldn't be stuck here forever.
After an incredibly painful good bye to my family I boarded the boat with the other men. A rush of excitement and anxiety ran threw me, I could't wait to be in Canada. The excitement wore off as I realized how long I would be stuck on the ship. I thought the streets were crowed but nothing was as bad as this, the food was horrible, and it was disgustingly dirty in there, I constantly had to remind myself that it would be worth it, once i got to Canada I would be happy.
The days seemed never ending, i was trying to keep track but eventually it became impossible. Many people around me had become incredibly ill, it scares me to be around them for it can be deathly. I have seen many good men die. Oh how I cannot wait to get off this ship.
I had been dreaming of my arrival in Canada for many many nights, but it was not as I had expected. Yes i was overjoyed to be off the boat, but once we stepped foot on the land many white people were standing there yelling and pointing at us, thought not everyone could understand, I was able to, thought i wouldn't say that was a good thing. They yelled nasty and mean things, telling us to leave and that we weren't wanted here. I was shocked, we were coming to build a railroad for them, clearly they didn't want to build it themselves and that's why they brought yes right?
We arrived at the site shortly after and we were expected to get to work right away. I was partly excited to start my new job, but I was also really tired, but at least I am off the boat now and nothing could be as bad as that.
We worked long hours, many of the men were still sick, they were still expected to work. I had never been so happy to go to bed, we slept in little cabins many of us in each. The night had little chatter as we were all exhausted from the days work, only to do it all again tomorrow. I had to put those thoughts out of my head and focus on the good things. Thinking about my family would help me get through the work tomorrow and they day after, until this cycle was finally over. One day my family will be here with me..One day.
